Mary Cowan began quilting about 18 years ago when her husband made a huge mistake and bought her a quilting book called Quilts, Quilts, Quilts. Little did he know how profoundly that would affect her life; soon she was taking classes at a local quilt shop and was hooked. Her love for fabric, sewing and quilting, along with her quest for all the latest greatest patterns has evolved, over the years, into designing her own patterns. Her pattern company is called Mary’s Cottage Quilts and is named after a family owned cottage in upstate New York.
Mary has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree specializing in graphic design from the Rochester Institute of Technology. She is a big fan of combining simple blocks with beautiful fabrics to make quilts that look very complex but are easy to construct and show off the character of the fabrics used. She likes a wide range of different color schemes from the soft pastels to the Civil War reproductions to the vibrant fabric designs of Kaffe Fassett.
“It is a great feeling to create a design that other quilters can get excited about and want to make for their family. I feel that if I can get others excited to create, choose fabric, and putting something together that can be a family heirloom to them then I have succeeded in my goal.”
Cami Stringham has been quilting for 12+ years. Cami has been with The Quilter's Lodge for over seven years and is the Assistant Manager. She has designed countess quilt samples and teaches many classes. Cami's classes include Comprehensive Beginning Quilting, Beginning Quilting 2.0, Foundation Paper Piecing, numerous Rope Bowl Workshops and many others. Cami is one of The Quilter’s Lodge Sample Makers, you can see her excellent work throughout the store. She loves scrappy projects that can use up every tiny bit of fabric. Her fabric favorites include Alison Glass, Ruby Star Society, and Jen Kingwell, Tula Pink and quirky low volume prints.
