SUPPLY LIST & RECOMMENDATIONS FOR EACH ARTIST’S STATION
The first class is introductory to all the materials, the fusing techniques and media.
Melanie recommends students wait to purchase and assemble any items listed until after
Class #1. This way, students can share purchases, make an assessment of products
and begin collecting their supplies. This will avoid purchasing duplicate or
unnecessary items.
  • A digital and printed 8 x 10 of the picture you have selected for your quilt
  • Ceramic Knife – (wait for class to see preferred options)
  • “Misty Fuse” – A light bonding agent, available on Amazon (two students can easily share one package – wait for class)
  • 45mm Rotary Cutter or 60mm Rotary Cutter
  • Scissors
  • Wool Mat
  • Small Iron
  • Applique scissors and applique prongs or your favorite tweezers
  • Selected saturated batiks with texture. Choose colors & value that are represented in your picture. You’ll want to collect about 30 fabrics.
  • Go through your stash and include any appropriate scraps. Purchase additional fabrics in ¼ yard or fat quarter amounts.
  • Freezer paper
  • Parchment paper
  • A collection of mixed media for finishing touches including colored pencils, pastels and ink. (wait for class to see preferred options)
  • Batting in silk or wool. (Wait for class. The batting depth depends on the subject matter. Animal subjects use a different batting than landscapes. Again, students can easily share a batting purchase.)
  • Fabric backing for your quilt. Purchase enough to back your quilt plus 4” in length & width. Add an additional 2/3 yard of the same fabric for binding and a sleeve. I’ll make recommendations depending on quilt size.
  • A variety of thread colors for quilting to complement your landscape fabrics. I use primarily embroidery threads because of the fine quality and array of colors. Thickness doesn’t matter.

Shared Cutting Mats, 6 1/2" x 24 1/2" Rulers with Handles, Irons,
Ironing Boards and Design Walls are supplied by The Quilter's Lodge
