Fig Tree BOM with Mary Cowan

Joanna Figueroa of Fig Tree Quilts has created a beautiful sampler quilt.  Mary Cowan has stepped it up a notched and will be teaching this as a Block of the Month.  This class is for the confident beginner to the experienced quilter, using basic piecing techniques and some applique.  Mary makes it fun and easy, as you use your own color palate to create a stunning quilt.  

This will be a 13 month class, meeting once per month.  Enrollment in this class requires signing up for a the $20.00 monthly fee that is deducted from your credit card at the first of each month.

There are 20 blocks in this amazing Block of The Month by Joanna Figueroa of Fig Tree Quilts. This class is for the confident beginner who definitely wants to build her quilt skills while making a beautiful keepsake. The quilt in the book is made with Christmas fabrics. I have chosen to make it in 2 colorways to really give the quiltmaker some choices here.  There is a more modern colorway and a very traditional one too.  Pick your “look” and start sewing up this very beautiful sampler.  Come join us for some sewing, friendship and definitely fun!

Block Size: 16 1/2 x 16 1/2”


Fabric Requirements: you will want to get a very wide assortment of fabrics that go well with eachother.


Darks – 6.5 yds total

Mediums - 4.5 yds total

Lights – 6 yds total


Light in blocks, sashing,& border – 5 2/3 yds

Backing 7 3/8 yds (DON’T BUY BACKING YET) 

Notes:  I know this seems like a lot of fabric BUT, I had 3 people check it and it is correct.  I will be adding another border to my quilt so it will be bigger than the 78 1/2” x 96 1/2”

Sewing Machine – that is in good working order and you are very familiar with

Mary Cowan began quilting about 26 years ago when her husband bought her the book Quilts, Quilts, Quilts.  Her love for fabric, sewing and quilting, along with her quest for all the latest greatest patterns has evolved over the years into designing her own patterns. Mary has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree specializing in graphic design from the Rochester Institute of Technology.  Her pattern company, Mary’s Cottage Quilts is named after a family owned cottage in upstate New York.
